I finished the demo and I am writing this review while the game downloads. Obviously, this was a buy for me. The game is enjoyable, relaxing and engaging. I liked the SFX, and the music, the story is simple yet engaging, the animations are well done and not too long and the graphics are beautifully executed. The HOS are typical but easy enough so you move on quickly. It doesn't get much better than this for me
This game is much better than the first of the series. The graphics are excellent. I think this is a good combination for both those who like strictly HOG games and those who prefer more adventure and puzzle type games. The puzzles are decent and not terribly hard. The HOG scenes are easy to navigate since the graphics are very clear. Takes place in New Orleans, which seems to be an excellent location for anything related to haunted houses. One of the better games which BF has introduced lately. Kudos to the developer!
This game does not look like the others. I liked the videos that leave a sense of real events. They have the unique atmosphere. I'm a fan of Lovecraft and the fact that this game was created after his works became for me a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. Unfortunately the demo does not disclose all the charm of the plot. Excellent graphics and enjoyable game play. Puzzles are not too hard. Just right for me. Great game.
I liked this one a lot.The scenery takes you from the mansion to the swamps etc...That was really clever and brilliant plus, the atmospheric sounds of water, thunder and the doors creaking .It gives this game it's creepy, eerie feel which I enjoy. The challenges I found them a bit easy. The storyline definitely earns it's five star rating.Love the dark ,twisted approach of it ,it's very compelling and intriguing, it gives you that sense of dread that is so important in these type of games.Overall: Excellent graphics, sounds, good challenges(That could've been better) and a compelling storyline " a la H.P.Lovecraft".Definitely recommend!
Good graphics, well thought out story and puzzles. Someone actually sat down and sketched this story out. This game is not an excuse for running back and forth and wondering where the next hidden object quest may be. I consulted the strategy guide a couple of times and realized I'd just missed a connection--NOT missed a hidden object or HOS. Challenging and fun with good built-in help should you need it... Extra play makes the CE worth it--and I *never* say that.
What an enjoyable time I've spent on the trial version. This has got to end up in my pocket. This is a good example of an interesting game.... another variation of a common theme but it still demands attention. Although it does'nt take an Einstein to completet the puzzles it does require some concentration. The graphics are great - I don't use the sound so I cannot comment. I was surprised to be 'allowed' over the water so soon but it just excited me to know that there has to be something worth waiting for in the rest of the game. Well done Devs. Thank you BFG. Just the pick-me -up required. A BIG Thumbs Up.
Haunted Hotel: Charles Dexter Ward Collector's Edition Very very good. Bonus was extremely hard.
My review is based on the demo....I am looking forwrd to the full download!!! I was in despair...I hadn't found a well put together game in what seemed ages and had resorted to replaying old favorites when this little gem came along.! What a delightful game. The artwork is exceptionally well done and the HOS are not just great big junk piles. Also the hidden objects are one-steppers..I like that. the plot, hunting for missing brother,...although overdone is still a decent one and the way of developing the story with letters and Diary pages works well for me. The music is well done quite nice as a matter of fact.....and the puzzles are playable and fairly frequent. I am quite delighted with the game and although I find the plot a wee bit overdone I would recommend this puzzle as a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
This game hit all the right notes for me. The story, based on HP Lovecraft, was dark and interesting. The HO scenes were clear and simple - no gadgetry to distract from gameflow. The minigames were numerous, mostly logic-based, and varied in difficulty, always advancing you to a new area to explore. The game world felt large, and was beautifully rendered. If you liked "Dorian Gray" (released awhile back), you'll like this. Extras were also worthwhile. More like this one, please!
